C'est avec un immense regret que nous annonçons le décès d'Amilcare Merlo, président et fondateur du groupe Merlo, l'un des pionniers dans le développement de chariots télescopiques pour la construction et l'agriculture.
Né en 1934 à la périphérie de Cuneo, en Italie, Merlo a fondé l'entreprise en 1964 et l'a construite pour devenir un acteur majeur sur le marché international, avec six filiales, plus de 50 importateurs et 600 revendeurs dans le monde.
Il s'est concentré sur l'industrie de la construction dès son plus jeune âge. Le temps qu'il a passé à l'âge de 14 ans à travailler dans l'atelier de forgeron de son père Giuseppe l'aurait inspiré à ouvrir la première usine de production de Merlo aux côtés de sa sœur Natalina.
Au cours des 58 années suivantes, l'entreprise a poursuivi son expansion et compte actuellement plus de 600 concessionnaires dans 80 pays, employant plus de 1 300 personnes.
Au début, l'entreprise s'est concentrée sur les tombereaux de chantier et les bétonnières tout-terrain. Elle a fabriqué son premier chariot télescopique en 1981. Ses produits actuels comprennent des chariots télescopiques, des tracteurs, des bétonnières et des dumpers sur chenilles.
Une chose qui n'a pas changé, ce sont les racines de l'entreprise, qui sont restées à Cuneo. Pour cela, il a reçu la citoyenneté d'honneur de la ville en 2015, aux côtés de sa sœur. Un an auparavant, l'entreprise avait été inscrite au registre italien des entreprises historiques.
La maire de Cuneo, Patrizia Manassero, a exprimé ses condoléances à la famille Merlo ; "C'est une grande perte pour tout le monde. Amilcare Merlo était une figure très précieuse, avec sa famille, pour notre province.

t is with enormous regret that we report the passing of Amilcare Merlo, President and Founder of Merlo Group, one of the pioneers in the development of telehandlers for both construction and agriculture.
Born in 1934 on the outskirts of Cuneo, Italy, Merlo founded the company in 1964 and built it to become a major player in the international market, with six subsidiaries, more than 50 importers, and 600 dealers worldwide.
His focus on the construction industry had started from a young age. The time he spent as a 14-year-old working in his father Giuseppe’s blacksmith workshop is said to have inspired him to open the first Merlo production facility alongside his sister Natalina.
Over the next 58 years, the company continued to expand, and currently has more than 600 dealers in 80 countries, employing more than 1,300 people.
At the start, the company focused on site dumpers and off-road concrete mixers. It manufactured its first telehandler in 1981. Its current products include telehandlers, tractors, concrete mixers and tracked dumpers.
One thing that didn’t change was the roots of the company, which remained in Cuneo. For this, he was awarded honorary citizenship of the city in 2015, alongside his sister. Just one year before, the company had been named in the Italian register of historic companies.
The Mayor of Cuneo, Patrizia Manassero expressed her condolences to the Merlo family; “It is a great loss for everyone. Amilcare Merlo was a very precious figure, together with his family, for our province.”
Shaun Groom, general manager of Merlo UK Ltd, added; “Amilcare Merlo was a truly inspiring figure for anyone that had the pleasure to meet him. All of us in the Merlo UK team are truly saddened by his passing.
“I know I can say that his wisdom, wit, determination and expertise will be missed by all.”

Het is met enorme spijt dat we het overlijden melden van Amilcare Merlo, President en oprichter van Merlo Group, een van de pioniers in de ontwikkeling van verreikers voor zowel de bouw als de landbouw.
Merlo, geboren in 1934 aan de rand van Cuneo, Italië, richtte het bedrijf op in 1964 en bouwde het uit tot een belangrijke speler op de internationale markt, met zes dochterondernemingen, meer dan 50 importeurs en 600 dealers wereldwijd.
Zijn focus op de bouwsector was al op jonge leeftijd begonnen. De tijd die hij als 14-jarige doorbracht in de smederij van zijn vader Giuseppe zou hem hebben geïnspireerd om samen met zijn zus Natalina de eerste Merlo-productiefaciliteit te openen.
In de daaropvolgende 58 jaar bleef het bedrijf uitbreiden en heeft het momenteel meer dan 600 dealers in 80 landen, met meer dan 1.300 mensen in dienst.
