Refueling with hydrogen as quickly as with a diesel truck: that's the ambition of Bosch Rexroth and Bosch Manufacturing Solutions. Their integrated solution promises to refuel up to eight heavy goods vehicles per hour, with a range of approximately 1,000 kilometers.

Hydrogen is poised to take a significant step forward in heavy goods transport. But to convince carriers, it's not enough to develop high-performance trucks: it's also essential to deploy fast, compact, and cost-effective refueling stations.

This is precisely the challenge that Bosch Rexroth and Bosch Manufacturing Solutions are tackling with a turnkey solution built around the CryoPump module. This technology combines the essential functions of pumping, hydraulics, and control in an integrated unit, thus simplifying the design and installation of the stations.

One technology, two refueling methods

The system's unique feature lies in its ability to dispense both high-pressure gaseous hydrogen and subcooled liquid hydrogen, or sLH2. This approach allows it to meet the needs of the various refueling technologies used for hydrogen trucks and buses in North America and Europe.

By reducing the number of high-pressure components and eliminating the need for high-pressure storage and a dedicated chiller in the presented configuration, Bosch announces savings of up to 50% on the initial investment. The compact design and integrated equipment also contribute to reducing the footprint and implementation time.

Proven results in the United States

Since October 2025, the first station equipped with this technology has been operating at the Port of Oakland, California. According to Bosch, the low hydrogen evaporation losses and extended maintenance intervals can reduce operating costs by up to 70%.

This experience should pave the way for a large-scale project: in partnership with the American company Fastech, Bosch Rexroth plans to build a hydrogen refueling station for 175 buses for the operator SamTrans in San Mateo County, near San Francisco, by 2027.

Europe in its sights

Bosch now intends to deploy this solution on the European market, where subcooled liquid hydrogen is generating increasing interest. Bosch Manufacturing Solutions is handling the engineering, planning, and integration of the various modules, right up to the commissioning of the installation.

The objective is clear: to make the infrastructure simpler to build, less expensive to operate, and more accessible to heavy transport professionals.

With CryoPump, Bosch is focusing on an infrastructure capable of bringing the hydrogen refueling experience closer to that of diesel. If the projected savings materialize on a large scale, this approach could help overcome one of the main obstacles to the development of hydrogen-powered heavy goods vehicles: the cost and complexity of refueling stations.
