L’utilisation d’une grue à flèche télescopique était le seul moyen de soulever les composants lourds et de les mettre en place sous le toit en surplomb du stade.
L'option de stabilisateur flexible MAXbase de la grue a permis de surmonter les restrictions d'espace, les réductions de contrepoids et la nécessité d'étendre la flèche à 8 sections sur de longs rayons.
Un Grove GMK5250XL-1 appartenant au fournisseur allemand de services de levage Gräser-Eschbach a achevé ses derniers levages dans le cadre de la reconstruction du stade de football MHP Arena de Stuttgart, en Allemagne, d'un coût de 130 millions d'euros. Abritant l'équipe de Bundesliga du VfB Stuttgart, le stade est en cours de réaménagement depuis 2018, même si la construction de sections temporaires lui a permis de rester opérationnel pendant cette période.
Gräser-Eschbach, basée à Bad Schönborn, en Allemagne, avait auparavant utilisé d'autres grues, mais les restrictions sur cette partie du projet signifiaient que les composants structurels devaient être placés sous le toit existant de 30 m de haut. La GMK5250XL-1 était la solution idéale pour les exigences uniques du chantier, grâce à une conception combinant la flèche télescopique la plus longue (78,5 m) sur cinq essieux avec un faible encombrement et une superbe maniabilité.
De plus, les contraintes d'espace sur le chantier signifiaient également que la grue ne pouvait être configurée qu'avec un contrepoids de 50 t pour conserver une largeur normale de véhicule. Mais là encore, cela n'a posé aucun problème et la grue a été installée pour acheminer les pièces en béton de 3,5 t jusqu'au sommet du stade, dans un rayon de 54 m. De plus, il a été utilisé pour placer des sections d'escalier de 17 t dans un rayon de 26 m.
Jens Seim, opérateur du GMK5250XL-1 chez Gräser-Eschbach, a déclaré :
« Nous devions éviter tout risque d'endommagement du terrain, nous ne pouvions donc étendre les stabilisateurs que d'un côté sur les trois quarts de leur longueur totale. Cependant, grâce à MAXbase, le système de positionnement variable des stabilisateurs de Grove, nous avons pu maintenir une capacité maximale même avec un positionnement asymétrique des stabilisateurs. Nous avons également utilisé MAXbase pour améliorer la sécurité opérationnelle tout en télescopant ces sections de 3,5 t. Cela a rendu la tâche vraiment simple.
La GMK5250XL-1 a été conçue pour repousser les limites des grues mobiles. La flèche de 78,5 m de cette grue est la plus longue de sa catégorie et comprend le goupillage de flèche TWIN-LOCK®. Sa longue flèche et ses capacités élevées sont contrebalancées par un faible encombrement et une maniabilité exceptionnelle. La conception monomoteur de la grue utilise une technologie d'économie de carburant, qui peut réduire les coûts jusqu'à 30 % par rapport aux grues Grove à cinq essieux précédentes.
Le réaménagement de la MHP Arena devrait avoir une capacité de stade d'environ 60 000 spectateurs. Il ajoutera également de nouvelles zones médiatiques et événementielles, des boutiques de fans, des bureaux et bien plus encore.
Le Grove GMK5250XL-1 a été livré à Gräser-Eschbach par KranAgentur Werner, qui a également vendu à la même entreprise un GMK5120L en 2023. Gräser-Eschbach avait précédemment reçu des ajouts de GMK4090-1, GMK5250XL-1, GMK5150XL et GMK5120L à sa flotte entre 2022 et 2023.

German crane rental company Gräser-Eschbach used its Grove GMK5250XL-1 all-terrain crane to help with a stadium renovation project.
Using a crane with a telescopic boom was the only way to lift heavy components into place below the overhanging stadium roof.
The crane’s MAXbase flexible outrigger option helped navigate space restrictions, counterweight reductions, and the need to extend the 8-section boom to long radii.
A Grove GMK5250XL-1 belonging to German lifting service provider Gräser-Eschbach has completed its final lifts on the €130 million reconstruction of the MHP Arena soccer stadium in Stuttgart, Germany. Home to Bundesliga team VfB Stuttgart, the stadium has been undergoing redevelopment since 2018, although the erection of temporary sections has allowed it to remain operational during this time.
Gräser-Eschbach, based in Bad Schönborn, Germany, had previously used other cranes, but restrictions on this part of the project meant structural components had to be placed underneath the existing 30 m-high roof. The GMK5250XL-1 was the ideal solution for the unique jobsite demands, thanks to a design that combines the longest telescopic boom (78.5 m) on five axles with a small footprint and superb maneuverability.
In addition, space restrictions on the job also meant the crane could only be configured with 50 t of counterweight to maintain a normal vehicle width. But again, this proved no problem, and the crane was set up to deliver the 3.5 t concrete parts to the top of the stadium, at a radius of 54 m. In addition, it was used to place 17 t stair sections at a 26 m radius.
Jens Seim, operator of the GMK5250XL-1 at Gräser-Eschbach, said:
“We had to avoid any risk of damaging the pitch, so we could only extend the outriggers on one side to three-quarters of their full length. However, because of MAXbase, Grove’s variable outrigger positioning system, we were able to maintain maximum capacity even with an asymmetric outrigger positioning. We also used MAXbase to enhance operational security while telescoping those 3.5 t sections. It made the whole task really simple.”
The GMK5250XL-1 was designed to push the boundaries of mobile cranes. This crane’s 78.5 m boom is the longest in its class and includes TWIN-LOCK® boom pinning. Its long boom and high capacities are balanced against a small footprint and stellar maneuverability. The crane’s single-engine design utilizes fuel saver technology, which can lower costs by up to 30% compared to previous Grove five-axle cranes.
The redevelopment at MHP Arena is expected to have a stadium capacity of around 60,000 spectators. It will also add new media and event areas, fan shops, offices, and more.
The Grove GMK5250XL-1 was delivered to Gräser-Eschbach by KranAgentur Werner, which also sold the same company a GMK5120L in 2023. Gräser-Eschbach previously received GMK4090-1, GMK5250XL-1, GMK5150XL, and GMK5120L additions to its fleet between 2022 and 2023.

Het Duitse kraanverhuurbedrijf Gräser-Eschbach gebruikte zijn Grove GMK5250XL-1 terreinkraan om te helpen bij een stadionrenovatieproject.
Het gebruik van een kraan met telescopische giek was de enige manier om zware componenten onder het overhangende stadiondak op hun plaats te tillen.
De flexibele stempeloptie MAXbase van de kraan hielp bij het navigeren door ruimtebeperkingen, het verminderen van het contragewicht en de noodzaak om de 8-delige giek uit te breiden tot grote radiussen.

“We moesten elk risico op beschadiging van het veld vermijden, dus konden we de stempels aan één kant slechts tot driekwart van hun volledige lengte uitschuiven. Dankzij MAXbase, het variabele stempelpositioneringssysteem van Grove, konden we echter de maximale capaciteit behouden, zelfs met een asymmetrische stempelpositionering. We hebben MAXbase ook gebruikt om de operationele veiligheid te vergroten tijdens het uitschuiven van die secties van 3,5 ton. Het maakte de hele taak heel eenvoudig.”
De GMK5250XL-1 is ontworpen om de grenzen van mobiele kranen te verleggen. De giek van deze kraan is met een lengte van 78,5 m de langste in zijn klasse en is voorzien van TWIN-LOCK®-giekverankeringen. De lange giek en hoge capaciteit zijn in balans met een kleine voetafdruk en geweldige manoeuvreerbaarheid. Het eenmotorige ontwerp van de kraan maakt gebruik van brandstofbesparende technologie, die de kosten tot 30% kan verlagen in vergelijking met eerdere Grove vijfassige kranen.
De herontwikkeling van de MHP Arena zal naar verwachting een stadioncapaciteit hebben van ongeveer 60.000 toeschouwers. Het zal ook nieuwe media- en evenementenruimtes, fanshops, kantoren en meer toevoegen.
De Grove GMK5250XL-1 werd aan Gräser-Eschbach geleverd door KranAgentur Werner, die hetzelfde bedrijf in 2023 ook een GMK5120L verkocht. Gräser-Eschbach ontving eerder tussen 2022 en 2022 GMK4090-1, GMK5250XL-1, GMK5150XL en GMK5120L toevoegingen aan zijn vloot. 2023.
