SkyTrak: JLG Reinvents its Telehandlers for the Construction Sites of Tomorrow

29 ea8JLG SkyTrak 12054 Telehandler IMAGE SOURCE: JLG

On major North American construction sites, power alone is no longer enough. It's essential to be able to lift higher, work faster, anticipate risks, and stay connected at all times.

It is with this in mind that JLG unveils the new SkyTrak 10042, 10054, and 12054, three telehandlers that complete the extensive modernization of its North American lineup.

Behind their familiar silhouette lies a completely redesigned generation. With a lifting capacity of up to 12,000 lbs, a maximum height of 53 ft 2 in, smarter electronics, and a cab designed to give the operator a clearer view of their surroundings, SkyTrak retains its rugged construction machine character while resolutely embracing the digital age.

The Quiet Strength of a New SkyTrak

Designed for construction, infrastructure, industrial, and material handling applications, the three models were conceived for situations where loads become heavy and heights dizzying: material pallets, metal structures, industrial equipment, or components for large infrastructure projects.

Under the hood, JLG has chosen the 110 hp Cummins F3.8 Tier 4 Final engine, paired with a four-speed Powershift transmission incorporating SmartShift technology. This technology automates the shifting between third and fourth gears to optimize machine operation and make driving smoother.

But the real evolution may lie behind the wheel.

When Technology Becomes an Ally

The new electronic architecture brings together more information and diagnostic functions, while the larger LCD screen allows the operator to more quickly understand what the machine is doing.

Among the technologies offered are Load Stability Indication (LSI) and the Seatbelt Engagement and Operator Presence (SEAOP) system.

The former monitors forward load capacity and provides visual cues to the operator. The latter combines visual and audible alerts and can limit certain functions when presence and safety conditions are not met.

A simple philosophy is emerging: to give the operator more information without complicating their work.

John Boehme, Senior Product Manager – Telehandlers at JLG, summarizes this development as a major step for the SkyTrak family, directly informed by user feedback.

Every action counts

On a worksite, a few seconds saved per cycle ultimately add up to hours.

JLG has therefore also focused on ergonomics. The new electro-hydraulic joystick integrates auxiliary hydraulic functions and attachment tilt control, enabling multiple functions with greater fluidity.

The auxiliary hydraulic connections have also been moved to the side of the boom head to facilitate attachment changes.

The cab has also adopted a more functional approach. The new single-page load charts offer more immediate readability, while the flat windows of the closed cab are designed for easy replacement.

The job site goes connected

Another major change: connectivity is no longer optional.

The ClearSky Smart Fleet platform is now standard. It allows machines to be connected, improves fleet tracking, and facilitates diagnostics and troubleshooting.

Additional equipment can further enhance visibility around the machine: a multi-view rear-view camera, a reversing detection system with audible alerts in the cab, and a white noise reversing alarm.

The SkyTrak is therefore no longer just about moving a load.

It communicates, analyzes, and assists those who operate it.

Three machines, three distinct personalities

The new generation is comprised of three models:

SkyTrak 10042 — 10,000 lb capacity, 42 ft 1 in lift height, and 26 ft 9 in forward reach.

SkyTrak 10054 — 10,000 lb capacity, 53 ft 2 in lift height, and 38 ft 10 in forward reach.

SkyTrak 12054 — 12,000 lb capacity, 53 ft 2 in lift height, and 38 ft 10 in forward reach.

Together, they cover a wide range of applications, from material placement and infrastructure construction to machine moving and industrial material handling.

A legend looking to the future

There's something almost paradoxical about this new generation of SkyTrak.

JLG did not seek to erase the robust character that built the brand's reputation. On the contrary, the company retained it as a foundation, before adding a new layer of intelligence, connectivity, and ergonomics.

The SkyTrak remains a true construction tool. But now, it thinks more like a machine of its time.

And when the first 10042, 10054, and 12054 models enter service on North American construction sites, their mission will ultimately remain very simple: to lift higher, work more efficiently, and allow those who operate them to stay ahead of the curve.

29 ea8JLG SkyTrak 12054 Telehandler IMAGE SOURCE: JLG

Drie machines, drie verschillende persoonlijkheden
