Laing O'Rourke clarifie la position du ciment

Une semaine après avoir annoncé qu'il utiliserait désormais exclusivement du béton à faible teneur en carbone dans la construction, Laing O'Rourke a précisé que cela ne signifie pas réellement qu'il abandonne le ciment Portland ordinaire.
Contrairement à ce que nous avons rapporté la semaine dernière, Laing O'Rourke s'est engagé à continuer d'utiliser l'OPC dans son béton, mais diluera sa teneur en carbone plus qu'auparavant.
Lorsque The Construction Index a reçu ce qui semblait être une déclaration définitive de Laing O'Rourke à ce sujet, intitulée Le béton à faible teneur en carbone deviendra la norme sur tous les projets de Laing O'Rourke au Royaume-Uni, cela nous est apparu sans ambiguïté.
« Le béton à faible teneur en carbone de Laing O'Rourke utilise des alternatives à faible teneur en carbone au ciment Portland. Il s'agit notamment de GGBS (laitier de haut fourneau granulé moulu) et de PFA (cendres volantes pulvérisées) », a-t-il déclaré, en fait.
Cependant, Laing O'Rourke nous a contactés aujourd'hui pour nous demander de préciser que cela ne signifie pas qu'il n'utilisera pas de ciment Portland ordinaire. Simplement, il utilisera de l'OPC mélangé à du GGBS et du PFA - comme beaucoup le font depuis des années - pour diluer la teneur en carbone.

A week after announcing that it would now use exclusively low carbon concrete in construction, Laing O’Rourke has clarified that this does not actually mean that it is ditching ordinary Portland cement.
Contrary to what we reported last week, Laing O’Rourke is committed to the continued use of OPC in its concrete, but will dilute its carbon content more than it has previously.
When The Construction Index received what appeared to be a definitive statement form Laing O’Rourke on the matter, titled Low carbon concrete to become standard on all Laing O’Rourke UK projects, it appeared unambiguous to us.
“Laing O’Rourke’s low carbon concrete uses lower carbon alternatives to Portland cement. These include GGBS (ground granulated blast-furnace slag) and PFA (pulverised fly ash),” it stated, as a matter of fact.
However, Laing O’Rourke has contacted us today asking us to clarify that this does not mean that it will not be using ordinary Portland cement. Simply, it will be using OPC mixed with GGBS and PFA – as many have been doing years – to dilute the carbon content.

Een week na de aankondiging dat het nu uitsluitend koolstofarm beton zou gebruiken in de bouw, heeft Laing O'Rourke verduidelijkt dat dit niet echt betekent dat het gewoon Portland-cement op de grond zet.
In tegenstelling tot wat we vorige week meldden, zet Laing O'Rourke zich in voor het voortdurende gebruik van OPC in zijn beton, maar zal het koolstofgehalte meer verdunnen dan voorheen.
Toen The Construction Index een schijnbaar definitieve verklaring van Laing O'Rourke over deze kwestie ontving, getiteld Low carbon concrete to be standard on all Laing O'Rourke UK-projecten, leek het ons ondubbelzinnig.
"Het koolstofarme beton van Laing O'Rourke maakt gebruik van koolstofarme alternatieven voor portlandcement. Deze omvatten GGBS (gemalen gegranuleerde hoogovenslak) en PFA (gepulveriseerde vliegas)”, verklaarde het trouwens.
Laing O'Rourke heeft vandaag echter contact met ons opgenomen met het verzoek ons te verduidelijken dat dit niet betekent dat het geen gewoon portlandcement zal gebruiken. Simpel gezegd, het zal OPC gemengd met GGBS en PFA gebruiken - zoals velen al jaren doen - om het koolstofgehalte te verdunnen.
