Couvrant une superficie de 2 000 mètres carrés, le Global Gate offre une immense plateforme d'exposition pour les artistes. Constituée de conteneurs maritimes disposés en forme de porte de Brandebourg, l'installation offre aux artistes la possibilité de présenter leurs œuvres dans un espace public. La Global Gate a été érigée et couronnée de quatre « Ottifants » – des éléphants de dessins animés dans le style comique d’Otto Waalkes – avec l’aide du dernier ajout à la flotte de la société de location de grues hanséatiques Knaack – une Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1.

Une attraction temporaire pour Hambourg : la plus grande œuvre d’art mobile du monde – la Global Gate – a trouvé son chemin vers la ville hanséatique de l’Elbe. La construction composée de 37 conteneurs maritimes a été exposée dans le port de Hambourg de mi-octobre à mi-novembre. Avec Global Gate, le conservateur d'art Marcus Schäfer a créé une plateforme pour exposer des œuvres au-delà des frontières traditionnelles des galeries et des musées. Après des escales à Dubaï et à Francfort, les conteneurs ont été présentés dans la ville hanséatique où, sous la devise "Bonjour Hambourg ! – Bonjour Otto !", ils ont accueilli de nombreuses peintures du comédien et artiste allemand Otto Waalkes. Une grue mobile Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1 a empilé les conteneurs en forme de porte de Brandebourg et a placé un quadrige de quatre « Ottifants », dessinés dans le style bande dessinée d'Otto Waalkes, sur l'installation de 20 mètres de haut.

L'ensemble de la construction, y compris l'installation des ouvrages, a duré quatre jours. Proximité de l'eau, terrain accidenté et vents forts – en raison de l'emplacement exposé directement au Cruise Center Altona, la construction du Global Gate a nécessité une logistique et une technologie précises. Equipée de 22 tonnes de lest et d'une flèche allongée jusqu'à 48 mètres, la grue a érigé l'œuvre d'art. La grue à 5 essieux n'était elle-même utilisée que depuis quatre semaines : « La LTM 1230-5.1 est le complément idéal à notre flotte de grues Liebherr. La grue mobile avec sa longue flèche peut être utilisée notamment pour le montage de grues de chantier », explique Uwe Schulze, grutier chez Knaack Krane.

Pour assurer la stabilité de l'installation, chacun des conteneurs de 3,9 tonnes a été rempli de sable et lesté jusqu'à un poids de 15 tonnes. De plus, des supports avec des réservoirs d'eau attachés ont été soudés aux conteneurs de la rangée inférieure – pour garantir que l'installation résisterait à une onde de tempête. Les conteneurs, empilés avec une précision centimétrique, ont finalement été boulonnés ensemble et recouverts d'un cadre en aluminium d'une longueur totale de 980 mètres, sur lequel ont été fixées les banderoles représentant des œuvres d'Otto Waalkes. L’installation sera visible jusqu’à la mi-novembre 2023.

Covering an area of 2,000 square metres, the Global Gate offers an enormous exhibition platform for artists. Consisting of sea containers arranged in the shape of the Brandenburg Gate, the installation offers artists the opportunity to present their works in a public space. The Global Gate was erected and crowned with four “Ottifants” – cartoon elephants in the comic style of Otto Waalkes – with help from the latest addition to the fleet of Hanseatic crane rental company Knaack – a Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1.

A temporary attraction for Hamburg: The world’s largest mobile work of art – the Global Gate – has found its way to the Hanseatic city on the Elbe. The construction consisting of 37 sea containers has been on display in the port of Hamburg from mid-October until mid-November. With Global Gate, art curator Marcus Schäfer has created a platform to exhibit works beyond the traditional boundaries of galleries and museums. After stops in Dubai and Frankfurt, the containers were presented in the Hanseatic city, where, under the motto "Hello Hamburg! – Hallo Otto!", to accommodate numerous paintings by German comedian and artist Otto Waalkes. A Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1 mobile crane stacked the containers in the shape of the Brandenburg Gate and placed a quadriga of four “Ottifants”, designed in comic style by Otto Waalkes, on the 20-metre-high installation.

The entire construction, including the installation of the works, took four days. Proximity to the water, uneven ground and strong winds – due to the exposed location directly at the Cruise Center Altona, the construction of the Global Gate required precise logistics and technology. Equipped with 22 tonnes of ballast and a boom that was extended to 48 metres, the crane erected the work of art. The 5-axle crane had itself only been in use for four weeks: “The LTM 1230-5.1 is the perfect addition to our fleet of Liebherr cranes. The mobile crane with its long boom can be used for construction crane assembly in particular,” says Uwe Schulze, crane operator at Knaack Krane.

To ensure the stability of the installation, each of the 3.9-tonne containers was filled with sand and ballasted to a weight of 15 tonnes. In addition, supports with attached water tanks were welded to the containers in the lower row – to ensure the installation would withstand a storm surge. The containers, stacked with centimetre precision, were finally bolted together, and covered with an aluminium frame with a total length of 980 metres, to which the banners with works by Otto Waalkes were mounted. The installation will be on view until mid-November 2023.

Een tijdelijke attractie voor Hamburg: 's werelds grootste mobiele kunstwerk – de Global Gate – heeft zijn weg gevonden naar de Hanzestad aan de Elbe. De constructie bestaande uit 37 zeecontainers heeft van half oktober tot half november in de haven van Hamburg gestaan. Met Global Gate heeft kunstcurator Marcus Schäfer een platform gecreëerd om werken tentoon te stellen buiten de traditionele grenzen van galerijen en musea. Na stops in Dubai en Frankfurt werden de containers gepresenteerd in de Hanzestad, waar onder het motto "Hallo Hamburg! – Hallo Otto!" talloze schilderijen van de Duitse cabaretier en kunstenaar Otto Waalkes werden ondergebracht. Een Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1 mobiele kraan stapelde de containers in de vorm van de Brandenburger Tor en plaatste een quadriga van vier “Ottifants”, in komische stijl ontworpen door Otto Waalkes, op de 20 meter hoge installatie.

De gehele bouw, inclusief het plaatsen van de werken, nam vier dagen in beslag. Nabijheid van het water, oneffen terrein en harde wind – vanwege de ligging direct bij het Cruise Center Altona vereiste de bouw van de Global Gate nauwkeurige logistiek en technologie. Uitgerust met 22 ton ballast en een giek die tot 48 meter uitgeschoven was, zette de kraan het kunstwerk neer. De 5-assige kraan was zelf nog maar vier weken in gebruik: “De LTM 1230-5.1 is de perfecte aanvulling op onze vloot Liebherr-kranen. De mobiele kraan met zijn lange giek kan vooral gebruikt worden voor bouwkraanmontage”, zegt Uwe Schulze, kraanmachinist bij Knaack Krane.

Om de stabiliteit van de installatie te garanderen, werd elk van de containers van 3,9 ton gevuld met zand en geballast tot een gewicht van 15 ton. Daarnaast zijn aan de containers in de onderste rij steunen met daaraan bevestigde watertanks gelast – zodat de installatie bestand zou zijn tegen een stormvloed. De tot op de centimeter nauwkeurig gestapelde containers werden uiteindelijk aan elkaar vastgeschroefd en afgedekt met een aluminium frame met een totale lengte van 980 meter, waaraan de spandoeken met werken van Otto Waalkes werden gemonteerd. De installatie is te zien tot medio november 2023.
