Asphaltica 2026: Roads Enter the Era of Recycling and Artificial Intelligence
Image-Asphaltica 2026
From October 7 to 10, 2026, the Asphaltica trade fair will bring together road construction and maintenance professionals in Bologna. Organized by BolognaFiere and SITEB, this edition will feature 140 exhibitors across 9,800 m², with over 8,000 visitors expected and some 40 conferences.
Faced with rising material costs and environmental requirements, maintaining Italy's approximately 837,000 kilometers of roads is becoming a major economic and technical challenge. Bitumen prices have risen sharply by 2026, reinforcing the interest in asphalt recycling, resource management, and pavement sustainability.
The fair will notably highlight sustainable construction practices, with demonstrations of soil stabilization, compaction, the application of recycled asphalt, and quality control. Manufacturers such as Wirtgen Group, Ammann, BOMAG, and Dynapac will showcase the latest developments in road equipment.
Another revolution: digitalization. Sensors, scanners, mapping, and artificial intelligence enable faster detection of damage and better planning of repairs, before the damage becomes costly. However, this technology remains inextricably linked to the expertise of engineers and appropriate funding.
Through an exhibition of historic machines, Asphaltica will also celebrate ANAS's 80th anniversary, while Asphaltica World will be held in Rome on October 20 and 21, 2027, before the international trade fair returns to Bologna in 2028.
The challenge is clear: to build more sustainable roads, increase recycling, and intervene at the right time thanks to ever more efficient machines and more precise data.
