On construction sites, changing hydraulic attachments without leaving the cab is becoming increasingly common. But one obstacle remains: compatibility between equipment from different brands. With the arrival of Kubota and the Japanese manufacturer Kanasugi Construction, the Open-S Alliance takes another step toward global standardization.
Kubota Focuses on User Freedom
The Japanese giant Kubota, a specialist in mini-excavators, joins the Open-S Alliance as a supporting member. Its goal: to enable companies to more easily combine excavators, quick couplers, and hydraulic attachments from different manufacturers.

This interoperability promises greater flexibility, better machine utilization, and increased productivity on construction sites.

OS®40: Mini-Excavators Enter the Fray
Major development: the introduction of the OS®40 standard, presented in June 2026 at the CSPI-EXPO trade show in Japan.

Designed for compact excavators from 2 to 7 tons, this new format now extends the Open-S standard's coverage to excavators from 2 to 75 tons.

Thanks to standardized interfaces, fully automatic quick couplers allow for the connection of compatible equipment from different brands, with integrated hydraulic and electrical connections.
Kanasugi: The Voice of Contractors
Another historic first: Kanasugi Construction, a Japanese infrastructure company, becomes the first construction contractor to join the alliance.

Active since 1950 in roads, bridges, and hydraulic structures, this company brings concrete field experience and aims to demonstrate the advantages of open systems on its own construction sites.

Towards a New Generation of Construction Sites
Created six years ago, the Open-S Alliance pursues a clear ambition: to eliminate the limitations imposed by proprietary systems and offer users true freedom of choice.

With Kubota, Kanasugi Construction, and the new OS®40 standard, the industry is taking a significant step toward more versatile machines, faster tool changes, and ever more productive worksites.

Tomorrow, an excavator's performance could also be measured by its ability to work with attachments from all compatible brands.
