TII KAMAG: Six 140-ton Giants Ready to Tackle Hot Slag Flows in Brazil
MINING & METALLURGY | INDUSTRIAL TRANSPORT

TII KAMAG specifically configures its proven vehicle technology for the demanding operating conditions at a Brazilian nickel plant.
At the heart of the Brazilian nickel industry, transporting molten materials leaves no room for improvisation. Extreme temperatures, colossal loads, steep inclines, and long distances: it is in this particularly demanding environment that TII KAMAG has just secured a major contract for the delivery of six specialized Slag Pot Carriers with U-shaped chassis.
Each machine boasts an impressive 140-ton load capacity and will be used to transport hot slag between a nickel plant and a remote storage site. This fleet renewal also marks a first for the operator, which is now choosing solutions from the TII Group.
429 kW under the hood to move 140 tons
To meet the site's constraints, KAMAG has specially adapted its vehicles. For the first time in this series, the six carriers are equipped with a powerful Caterpillar C18 diesel engine producing 429 kW, or approximately 584 hp.
The challenge is considerable: over a distance of about one kilometer, the machines must climb gradients of up to 5% while transporting extreme loads. Their design also allows them to handle slag bags with a volume of up to 30 m³.
Safety is another essential element. A continuous tire pressure monitoring system detects anomalies before they become critical. For repeated descents with maximum loads, the carriers are equipped with wet multi-disc brakes operating in an oil bath. This technology ensures stable braking, limits wear, and reduces maintenance requirements.
Connectivity for uptime
But performance isn't measured solely by engine power or transport capacity. In an industrial facility where every interruption can disrupt production, machine uptime is paramount.
The six vehicles will be equipped with KAMAG Connect, the digital solution that transmits alerts and technical information in real time. Fault codes allow for proactive maintenance, facilitate diagnostics, and ensure the availability of necessary parts even before technicians arrive.
A specific spare parts supply agreement will also cover the first years of operation.
RIMAC, the local partner
To support this project, TII KAMAG is relying on its long-standing Brazilian partner, RIMAC, which is responsible for sales, project coordination, and local after-sales service.
The delivery of the six transporters is staggered: the first vehicle is already en route to Brazil, two others have recently rolled off the production line, and the final three are scheduled to arrive at the site by the end of 2026.
With this contract, TII KAMAG demonstrates that the industrial transport of extreme loads is not solely based on powerful machinery. It requires a perfectly controlled combination of specialized engineering, safety, digital monitoring, and local technical support.
In the demanding world of metallurgy and mining, these six 140-ton giants will have a crucial mission: to ensure the safe transport of hot slag, day after day, and keep production running.
