City Harvest prévoit de récupérer 100 millions de livres de nourriture cette année pour les redistribuer aux communautés new-yorkaises. Les nouveaux Volvo doivent accompagner une hausse de 25 % des volumes livrés dans le Bronx.

Three Volvo VNR Electric trucks are joining the City Harvest fleet, replacing three diesel trucks. Equipped with electric refrigeration units, they will be able to transport and refrigerate food without any tailpipe emissions on the streets of New York City and its five boroughs.

The choice of location is symbolic. Hunts Point sees more than 15,000 truck movements every day, at the heart of one of the city's main food distribution centers. It is here that two urgent needs converge: the pressure of road transport and the food needs of a vulnerable population.

City Harvest plans to collect 100 million pounds of food this year to redistribute to New York City communities. The new Volvo trucks are intended to support a 25% increase in delivery volumes in the Bronx.

Initially recharged at the Fulton Fish Market Cooperative, the trucks will eventually benefit from a future dedicated freight hub, featuring 32 DC fast-charging stations, including spaces for heavy-duty trucks, and 10 Level 2 chargers.

In New York, the electric truck no longer simply transports goods. It carries an idea: that of urban logistics capable of feeding the city without continuing to suffocate it.
