(NZEC) ont développé, avec 13 Specialty Chemicals Ltd, une solution chimique sur mesure destinée aux pétroles paraffiniques du bassin néo-zélandais de Taranaki. Plus qu'un simple additif, cette technologie pourrait transformer la gestion des champs terrestres vieillissants.

Le système associe NZ-START, chargé d'éliminer les dépôts de cire existants, à NZ-FLOW, conçu pour empêcher leur reformation et maintenir un écoulement continu du brut. Compatible avec les installations existantes, il ne nécessite aucune modification permanente des infrastructures et peut être déployé aussi bien sur un puits isolé que sur un champ complet.

Les sociétés estiment que la technologie pourrait remettre les installations en production en 24 à 48 heures, stabiliser les débits en moins d'une semaine et optimiser les coûts de traitement en un mois. Ces performances devront toutefois être validées lors des premiers essais terrain, actuellement en préparation.

Au-delà du gain opérationnel, Monumental voit également une opportunité commerciale. La formulation, développée en exclusivité avec NZEC, pourrait être commercialisée auprès d'autres producteurs confrontés aux mêmes problèmes de paraffine dans le bassin de Taranaki, ouvrant ainsi une nouvelle source de revenus.

Si les essais confirment les attentes, cette innovation pourrait offrir une solution rapide et peu coûteuse pour améliorer la rentabilité des champs matures, tout en positionnant Monumental Energy non seulement comme producteur, mais aussi comme fournisseur de technologies de flow assurance. In mature oil fields, the main obstacle to production isn't always buried underground. It often forms in the pipelines. As it cools, paraffin-rich oils solidify, fouling equipment and significantly reducing flow rates, leading to high maintenance costs and production shutdowns.

To address this challenge, Monumental Energy Corp. and its partner New Zealand Energy Corp. (NZEC), along with 13 Specialty Chemicals Ltd., have developed a tailored chemical solution for the paraffin-rich oils of New Zealand's Taranaki Basin. More than just an additive, this technology could transform the management of aging onshore fields.

The system combines NZ-START, designed to remove existing wax deposits, with NZ-FLOW, designed to prevent their reformation and maintain a continuous flow of crude oil. Compatible with existing facilities, it requires no permanent infrastructure modifications and can be deployed on a single well or an entire field.

The companies estimate that the technology could restore facilities to production within 24 to 48 hours, stabilize flow rates in less than a week, and optimize processing costs within a month. These performance figures will need to be validated during initial field trials, which are currently being prepared.

Beyond the operational benefits, Monumental also sees a commercial opportunity. The formulation, developed exclusively with NZEC, could be marketed to other producers facing the same paraffin issues in the Taranaki Basin, thus opening up a new revenue stream.

If the trials confirm expectations, this innovation could offer a fast and cost-effective solution to improve the profitability of mature fields, while positioning Monumental Energy not only as a producer but also as a provider of flow assurance technologies. In volwassen olievelden ligt het grootste obstakel voor de productie niet altijd onder de grond. Het vormt zich vaak in de pijpleidingen. Naarmate de olie afkoelt, stolt de paraffinerijke olie, waardoor apparatuur verstopt raakt en de doorstroomsnelheid aanzienlijk afneemt. Dit leidt tot hoge onderhoudskosten en productiestops.

Om deze uitdaging aan te pakken, hebben Monumental Energy Corp. en haar partner New Zealand Energy Corp. (NZEC), samen met 13 Specialty Chemicals Ltd., een chemische oplossing op maat ontwikkeld voor de paraffinerijke olie in het Taranaki-bekken in Nieuw-Zeeland.
