When the Bearing Begins to Think

When the Bearing Begins to Think
For decades, the bearing has been one of the most discreet components of the machine. Today, it is becoming one of its most intelligent sensors.
With SKF Insight and its new SKF Core platform, SKF is bringing intelligence directly to the heart of the machine.
The result of a collaboration with the fiber optics specialist Sentea, SKF Core combines sensing, data processing, and communication in a single industrial unit. This architecture is designed to make the technology easier to deploy and scalable.
See what the machine doesn't show
The new SKF Insight bearings no longer simply measure temperature or vibration.
They can now reveal essential information about lubrication, contact pressures, and bearing health, while providing a more precise view of loads and actual operating conditions.
The bearing thus becomes a window into what is happening inside the machine itself.
From Diagnosis to Prediction
This intelligence primarily changes how equipment is maintained.
Instead of waiting for a breakdown, manufacturers can detect early warning signs, anticipate interventions, and reduce unplanned downtime.
Maintenance no longer reacts to the problem. It learns to anticipate it.
A New Industrial Intelligence
Presented at AMB 2026 in Stuttgart, this development marks a significant milestone for SKF: transforming data from the mechanical core into concrete decisions to improve reliability, productivity, and performance.
Yesterday, the bearing made the machine run.
Tomorrow, it will help tell it how to operate better.
