Dubaï a commencé la construction d'un terminal aéroportuaire de 35 milliards de dollars pour l'aéroport international Al Maktoum, ce qui en fera le plus grand aéroport du monde.

Annonçant cette décision sur X (anciennement Twitter), le Cheikh Mohammed de Dubaï a déclaré que l'aéroport aurait la plus grande capacité au monde, accueillant jusqu'à 260 millions de passagers par an et serait cinq fois plus grand que l'actuel aéroport international de Dubaï.

« L'aéroport pourra accueillir 400 portes d'embarquement et comportera cinq pistes parallèles. À mesure que nous construisons une ville entière autour de l’aéroport de Dubaï Sud, la demande de logements pour un million de personnes suivra », a-t-il ajouté.

Toutes les opérations de l'aéroport international de Dubaï seront transférées à l'aéroport international Al Maktoum au cours des années à venir.

L’agrandissement de l’aéroport international Al Maktoum, également connu sous le nom de Dubai World Central, est envisagé depuis un certain temps. Les travaux sur le projet ont commencé avec la sous-structure du hall 1 et le bâtiment du terminal ouest achevés dans le cadre d'un ensemble de travaux de 2,7 milliards de dollars, mais le projet s'est ensuite arrêté au milieu de la pandémie de Covid-19.

L'aéroport se trouve à Jebel Ali, à 37 km au sud-ouest de Dubaï et a été ouvert en 2010.

Dubai has started construction of a $35 billion airport terminal for Al Maktoum International Airport, which will make it the largest airport in the world.

Announcing the move on X (formerly Twitter), Dubai’s Sheikh Mohammed said the airport would have the world’s largest capacity, handling up to 260 million passengers a year and would be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport.

“The airport will accommodate 400 aircraft gates and feature five parallel runways. As we build an entire city around the airport in Dubai South, demand for housing for a million people will follow,” he added.

All operations at Dubai International Airport will transfer to Al Maktoum International Airport over the coming years.

The expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport, also known as Dubai World Central, has been on the cards for some time. Work on the project started with the substructure of Concourse 1 and the West Terminal building completed in a $2.7 billion package of work but the project then stalled amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The airport is in Jebel Ali, 37km southwest of Dubai itself and originally opened in 2010.

Dubai is begonnen met de bouw van een luchthaventerminal ter waarde van $35 miljard voor Al Maktoum International Airport, waardoor het de grootste luchthaven ter wereld zal worden.

Bij de aankondiging van de verhuizing op X (voorheen Twitter) zei Sjeik Mohammed van Dubai dat de luchthaven de grootste capaciteit ter wereld zou hebben, tot 260 miljoen passagiers per jaar zou kunnen verwerken en vijf keer zo groot zou zijn als de huidige internationale luchthaven van Dubai.

“De luchthaven zal plaats bieden aan 400 vliegtuigpoorten en beschikt over vijf parallelle start- en landingsbanen. Terwijl we een hele stad rond de luchthaven in Dubai South bouwen, zal de vraag naar woningen voor een miljoen mensen volgen”, voegde hij eraan toe.

Alle activiteiten op Dubai International Airport zullen de komende jaren worden overgebracht naar Al Maktoum International Airport.
