Sous les rues de New York se prépare l’un des derniers chapitres d’un chantier colossal. Pour la Phase 2 du Second Avenue Subway, estimée à 6,97 milliards de dollars, la Metropolitan Transportation Authority vient de lancer l’appel à qualifications pour le plus important contrat de construction du projet.

Ce quatrième et ultime marché concentrera l’essentiel des opérations finales : voies, quais, signalisation, systèmes électriques et mécaniques, finitions architecturales, 22 ascenseurs et 20 escalators, mais aussi essais, mise en service et réaménagement des rues.

1,5 mile de métro supplémentaire

Le projet prolongera la ligne Q sur environ 1,5 mile, depuis la 96th Street jusqu’à East Harlem, avec trois nouvelles stations aux 106th, 116th et 125th Streets. Cette dernière sera connectée au réseau existant de Lexington Avenue.

Les entreprises candidates devraient être invitées à remettre leurs offres fin 2026, pour une sélection prévue mi-2027 et un démarrage des travaux la même année.

Pendant ce temps, les trois premiers marchés avancent déjà simultanément. L’objectif final est fixé à l’automne 2032.

Avec 3,4 milliards de dollars de financement fédéral et de recettes issues de la tarification de la congestion, New York prépare ainsi une nouvelle transformation de son réseau souterrain.

Sous Manhattan, les rails avancent. Et avec eux, c’est tout East Harlem qui s’apprête à changer de visage.

NEW YORK: Manhattan Subway Enters Its Final Battle

Beneath the streets of New York, one of the final chapters of a colossal construction project is underway. For Phase 2 of the Second Avenue Subway, estimated at $6.97 billion, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has just launched the call for qualifications for the project's largest construction contract.

This fourth and final contract will encompass the bulk of the final operations: tracks, platforms, signaling, electrical and mechanical systems, architectural finishes, 22 elevators and 20 escalators, as well as testing, commissioning, and street redesign.

1.5 Miles of Subway Extension

The project will extend the Q line by approximately 1.5 miles, from 96th Street to East Harlem, with three new stations at 106th, 116th, and 125th Streets. The latter will connect to the existing Lexington Avenue network.

Bidding companies are expected to be invited to submit their offers by the end of 2026, with a selection process planned for mid-2027 and construction starting the same year.

Meanwhile, the first three contracts are already progressing simultaneously. The final target is set for fall 2032.

With $3.4 billion in federal funding and revenue from congestion pricing, New York City is preparing for another transformation of its underground network.

Under Manhattan, the tracks are moving forward. And with them, the entire East Harlem neighborhood is about to change dramatically.

Onder de straten van New York is een van de laatste hoofdstukken van een kolossaal bouwproject van start gegaan. Voor fase 2 van de Second Avenue Subway, met een geschatte kosten van $ 6,97 miljard, heeft de Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) zojuist de aanbesteding uitgeschreven voor het grootste bouwcontract van het project.

Dit vierde en laatste contract omvat het grootste deel van de laatste werkzaamheden: sporen, perrons, signalering, elektrische en mechanische systemen, architectonische afwerking, 22 liften en 20 roltrappen, evenals testen, inbedrijfstelling en herinrichting van de straten.

2,4 kilometer metro-uitbreiding

Het project verlengt de Q-lijn met ongeveer 2,4 kilometer, van 96th Street tot East Harlem, met drie nieuwe stations op 106th, 116th en 125th Street. Het laatstgenoemde station zal aansluiten op het bestaande netwerk aan Lexington Avenue.
