Suite au succès de sa formation d'instructeur MHE, RTITB lance un nouveau programme de formation d'instructeur personnalisable.

Cette nouvelle formation formera initialement des formateurs pour les tracteurs de remorquage, les ponts roulants et les nacelles élévatrices mobiles, puis d'autres types d'équipements suivront.

Conçue pour répondre aux besoins de formation actuels, cette formation met l'accent sur la confiance et les compétences, et propose des parcours d'accès flexibles.

Les retours positifs de près de 800 candidats à la formation d'instructeur MHE soulignent l'efficacité de l'approche de formation modernisée de RTITB.

La RTITB vise à promouvoir une culture de sécurité, d'excellence et de diversité, et constate une augmentation du nombre de formatrices en chariots élévateurs.

La nouvelle formation utilisera un modèle de classe inversée et un processus d'examen modernisé afin de réduire le stress et d'améliorer les résultats d'apprentissage.

Suite au succès de sa formation innovante d'instructeur en équipements de manutention (EMM) lancée en 2024, la RTITB s'apprête à lancer un nouveau programme de formation d'instructeur personnalisable.

Depuis son lancement en juin 2024, la formation d'instructeur EMM modernisée de la RTITB a vu 741 candidats la terminer avec une note moyenne de 79,46 %. Cela a conduit à l'introduction d'une nouvelle formation d'instructeur proposant différents parcours pour cinq types d'engins.

Dans un premier temps, la nouvelle formation peut être adaptée pour former des instructeurs à trois types d'engins : tracteurs de remorquage, ponts roulants (OHC) et plates-formes élévatrices mobiles de personnel (PEMP). Des options pour les instructeurs en chariots multidirectionnels et en élingage et signalisation suivront ultérieurement.

Quel que soit le parcours choisi, la nouvelle formation est conçue pour répondre à l'évolution des besoins et des styles d'apprentissage des candidats à la formation, en mettant l'accent sur la confiance et la compétence.

« La sécurité et l'efficacité des opérateurs commencent par une formation de qualité, et cela dépend de l'expertise des formateurs », déclare Laura Nelson, directrice générale de RTITB. « Depuis le lancement de la formation d'instructeur MHE l'année dernière, nous avons constaté l'impact positif d'une approche modernisée de la formation sur les candidats formateurs et les personnes qu'ils forment. »

Une enquête menée auprès de près de 800 candidats ayant suivi la formation d'instructeur MHE de RTITB entre juin 2024 et mai 2025 a révélé des retours très positifs :

Près de 100 % recommanderaient RTITB à leur employeur ou à leurs amis.

99 % ont trouvé la plateforme LMS (Learning Managing System) de RTITB utile pour l'apprentissage en ligne et les évaluations blanches.

95 % ont trouvé les questions d'évaluation des connaissances claires et faciles à comprendre.

98 % se sont sentis à l'aise avec l'examinateur lors des évaluations.

98 % ont trouvé la plateforme d'évaluation en ligne facile à utiliser.

La formation d'instructeur MHE a été la première du genre à intégrer des aménagements raisonnables pour une plus grande inclusion. Elle s'adapte également aux attentes de formation modernes et à la diversité des styles d'apprentissage. Cette approche avant-gardiste s'est avérée très efficace, incitant la RTITB à développer une nouvelle formation d'instructeur pour s'adapter à d'autres types d'équipements.

« Nous nous appuyons sur la formation d'instructeur MHE remaniée pour proposer de nouveaux parcours de formation qui mettent l'accent sur le comportement, les connaissances et les compétences », explique Laura.

« Cela aidera davantage d'entreprises à respecter les normes les plus strictes et à répondre aux besoins de formation spécifiques à chaque type de machine. L'objectif est également de promouvoir une culture de sécurité, d'excellence et de diversité dans notre secteur », poursuit-elle.

En février 2023, la RTITB a constaté une augmentation du nombre de femmes instructrices en chariots élévateurs. 2,1 % de tous les délégués qualifiés comme instructrices en chariots élévateurs ou en transpalettes RTITB s'identifiaient comme femmes. À l'époque, seulement 0,37 % des instructrices en chariots élévateurs RTITB étaient des femmes.

Des statistiques plus récentes révèlent que les candidats masculins à la formation d'instructeurs sont toujours plus nombreux que les candidates. Cependant, le pourcentage de femmes ayant terminé la formation (71 %) est légèrement supérieur à celui des hommes (67 %).

« Les femmes représentent encore un faible pourcentage des instructeurs », ajoute Laura. « Nous espérons toutefois que ces résultats positifs, associés à la modernisation de notre formation, encourageront davantage de candidates à s'inscrire. »

Ce nouveau cursus flexible propose également deux voies d'accès différentes, supprimant ainsi certains obstacles aux carrières d'instructeur professionnel tout en maintenant les normes les plus élevées du secteur. Auparavant, un candidat devait posséder une certification de conducteur de chariot élévateur à contrepoids ou de chariot élévateur à mât rétractable pour devenir instructeur MHE.

Le parcours 1 sera un cours d'instructeur débutant de cinq jours couvrant un seul type d'équipement. Le parcours 2 propose un cours d'instructeur débutant de 10 jours qui permet également aux candidats de se former sur d'autres types d'équipements, s'ils sont déjà titulaires d'une certification d'opérateur valide. Chaque cours est conçu pour garantir que les instructeurs soient parfaitement préparés à dispenser une formation précise, efficace et pertinente.

À l'instar du cours d'instructeur MHE, qui a connu un franc succès, la nouvelle formation d'instructeur utilisera un modèle de « classe inversée ». Cela signifie que les candidats suivent une formation en ligne à leur rythme avant de participer aux sessions en présentiel. Cette approche permet aux instructeurs de valider et de consolider leurs acquis plus efficacement.

Il reflétera également le processus d'examen modernisé du RTITB. Auparavant, l'examen théorique et la présentation pour les instructeurs avaient lieu le dernier jour. Cela pourrait engendrer une pression inutile. Le nouveau format répartit les évaluations sur l'ensemble du cursus, offrant une évaluation plus complète et moins stressante des compétences des candidats. Toutes les évaluations seront spécifiques au parcours de formation spécifique à chaque type de machine.

« En combinant des supports de formation crédibles et conformes à une présentation convaincante, vous formez non seulement des candidats compétents, mais vous avez également la possibilité d'influencer la culture et les comportements afin d'améliorer sensiblement la sécurité au sein de votre entreprise », explique Laura.

Elle conclut : « La formation des instructeurs est bien plus qu'une simple formation : c'est une solution qui crée un changement durable et peut même sauver des vies.»

RTITB is launching a new customisable Instructor training program following the success of its MHE Instructor course.

The new course will initially train Instructors for Tow Tractors, Overhead Cranes, and Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, with more equipment types to follow.

The course is designed to meet modern training needs, focusing on confidence and competence, and includes flexible entry routes.

Positive feedback from nearly 800 candidates of the MHE Instructor course highlights the effectiveness of RTITB’s modernised training approach.

RTITB aims to foster a culture of safety, excellence, and diversity, noting an increase in female lift truck instructors.

The new course will use a ‘flipped classroom’ model and a modernised examination process to reduce stress and improve learning outcomes.

Following the success of its innovative Materials Handling Equipment (MHE) Instructor course launched in 2024, RTITB is set to introduce a new customisable Instructor training program.

Since launching in June 2024, RTITB’s modernised MHE Instructor course has seen 741 candidates complete the course with an average score of 79.46%. This has prompted the introduction of a new Instructor course with different pathways for five machine types.

Initially, the delivery of the new course can be tailored to train Instructors for three types of equipment: Tow Tractors, Overhead Cranes (OHC), and Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP). Options for Multidirectional Trucks and Slinging and Signalling Instructors will follow later.

Whichever pathway is chosen, the new course is designed to meet the evolving needs and learning styles of today’s training candidates, with a joint focus on confidence and competence.

“Operator safety and efficiency begin with quality training, and that depends on Instructors with the right expertise,” says Laura Nelson, Managing Director for RTITB. “Since the launch of the MHE Instructor course last year, we’ve seen how taking a modernised approach to training has a positive impact on Instructor candidates and those they train.”

A survey of nearly 800 candidates who completed the RTITB MHE Instructor course between June 2024 and May 2025 revealed very positive feedback:

Nearly 100% would recommend RTITB to their employer or friends.

99% found the RTITB LMS (Learning Managing System) platform helpful for eLearning and mock assessments.

95% found the knowledge assessment questions clear and easy to understand.

98% felt at ease with the Examiner during assessments.

98% found the online assessment platform easy to navigate.

The MHE Instructor course was the first of its kind to incorporate reasonable adjustments for greater inclusion. It also aligns with both modern training expectations and diverse learning styles. This forward-thinking approach has proven highly effective, prompting RTITB to develop the new Instructor course to cater to  other equipment types.

“We are building on the revamped MHE Instructor training to offer new training pathways that have the same focus on behaviour alongside knowledge and skills,” explains Laura.

“This will help more companies uphold the highest standards and address the unique training needs of each type of machine. It also aims to foster a culture of safety, excellence, and diversity across our industry,” she continues.

In February 2023, RTITB noted an upswing in female lift truck instructors. With 2.1% of all delegates qualifying as RTITB Lift Truck Instructors or Pallet Truck Instructors identifying as female. At the time, only 0.37% of all RTITB Lift Truck Instructors were female.

More recent statistics reveal that there are still more male candidates training as Instructors than females. However, the percentage of females who have completed the training (71%) was slightly higher than for males (67%).

"Females still make up a small percentage of Instructors overall," Laura adds. "But we hope that these positive results, coupled with our modernised training, may help to encourage more female candidates to sign up."

The flexible new course also offers two different routes to entry, removing some of the barriers to careers as a professional Instructor while maintaining the highest industry standards. Previously, a candidate would need counterbalance or reach truck operator certifications to become an MHE Instructor.

Route 1 will be a five-day novice Instructor course covering a single equipment type. Route 2 offers a 10-day novice Instructor course that also qualifies candidates to train on additional equipment types. If they already hold valid operator certificates. Each is designed to make sure Instructors are fully prepared to deliver precise, impactful, and relevant training.

As with the successful MHE Instructor course, the new Instructor training will use a ‘flipped classroom’ model. This means candidates complete self-paced eLearning before attending face-to-face sessions. The approach allows Instructors to confirm and reinforce learning more effectively.

It will also reflect the modernised RTITB examination process. Previously, both the theory test and presentation for Instructors were held on the final day. This could cause unnecessary pressure. The new format spreads assessments across the course, offering a more comprehensive and less stressful evaluation of candidate ability. All assessments will be specific to the particular machine type training pathway.

“When you combine credible, compliant training materials with compelling delivery, you not only train competent candidates, you also get the ability to influence the culture and behaviours that can measurably improve safety in your business,” says Laura.

She concludes: “Instructor training is more than ‘just a course’ – it’s a solution that creates long term change and can even save lives.”

"Sinds de lancering van de MHE-instructeurscursus vorig jaar hebben we gezien hoe een gemoderniseerde trainingsaanpak een positieve impact heeft op instructeurskandidaten en degenen die ze opleiden."

De MHE-instructeurscursus was de eerste in zijn soort met redelijke aanpassingen voor meer inclusiviteit. De cursus sluit ook aan bij zowel moderne trainingsverwachtingen als diverse leerstijlen. Deze vooruitstrevende aanpak is zeer effectief gebleken en heeft RTITB ertoe aangezet de nieuwe instructeurscursus te ontwikkelen voor andere soorten apparatuur.

"We bouwen voort op de vernieuwde MHE-instructeurscursus om nieuwe trainingstrajecten aan te bieden die dezelfde focus hebben op gedrag naast kennis en vaardigheden", legt Laura uit.

"Dit zal meer bedrijven helpen de hoogste normen te handhaven en in te spelen op de unieke trainingsbehoeften van elk type machine. Het is er ook op gericht een cultuur van veiligheid, uitmuntendheid en diversiteit in onze branche te bevorderen", vervolgt ze.

De flexibele nieuwe cursus biedt ook twee verschillende instaproutes, waardoor een aantal belemmeringen voor een carrière als professioneel instructeur worden weggenomen en tegelijkertijd de hoogste industrienormen worden gehandhaafd. Voorheen had een kandidaat een certificaat voor contragewicht- of reachtruckchauffeur nodig om MHE-instructeur te worden.

Route 1 is een vijfdaagse beginnerscursus voor instructeurs die één type apparatuur behandelt. Route 2 biedt een tiendaagse beginnerscursus voor instructeurs die kandidaten ook kwalificeert voor training op andere typen apparatuur, mits ze al over geldige bedieningscertificaten beschikken. Elke route is ontworpen om ervoor te zorgen dat instructeurs volledig voorbereid zijn om nauwkeurige, impactvolle en relevante training te geven.

Net als de succesvolle MHE-instructeurscursus, zal de nieuwe instructeurstraining een 'flipped classroom'-model hanteren. Dit betekent dat kandidaten een e-learningcursus in hun eigen tempo volgen voordat ze aan de fysieke sessies deelnemen. Deze aanpak stelt instructeurs in staat om hun kennis effectiever te bevestigen en te versterken.

De training zal ook het gemoderniseerde RTITB-examenproces weerspiegelen. Voorheen vonden zowel het theorie-examen als de presentatie voor instructeurs op de laatste dag plaats. Dit kon onnodige druk veroorzaken. De nieuwe opzet spreidt de beoordelingen over de cursus, wat een uitgebreidere en minder stressvolle evaluatie van de vaardigheden van de kandidaat oplevert. Alle beoordelingen zijn specifiek voor het specifieke machinetype-trainingstraject.

"Wanneer je geloofwaardige, conforme trainingsmaterialen combineert met een overtuigende presentatie, train je niet alleen competente kandidaten, maar krijg je ook de mogelijkheid om de cultuur en het gedrag te beïnvloeden die de veiligheid in je bedrijf meetbaar kunnen verbeteren", aldus Laura.

Ze concludeert: "Instructeurstraining is meer dan 'gewoon een cursus' - het is een oplossing die verandering op de lange termijn teweegbrengt en zelfs levens kan redden."
