Entièrement repensé — à 90 % nouveau par rapport au modèle précédent — le Volvo VNR repose sur une plateforme inédite. Il a été conçu pour affronter la complexité des centres-villes encombrés, des hubs logistiques et des itinéraires urbains où chaque mètre compte. Dans ces environnements exigeants, la visibilité, la précision et l’agilité ne sont pas des options, mais des nécessités absolues.
Comme l’a souligné Peter Voorhoeve, président de Volvo Trucks North America, conduire un poids lourd en milieu urbain dense relève souvent du défi. Le nouveau VNR a été pensé pour répondre aux réalités du quotidien, en améliorant la sécurité du conducteur comme celle des autres usagers de la route. Aujourd’hui, l’entreprise se dit fière de voir ces camions rejoindre enfin les flottes de ses clients.
Une fabrication ancrée aux États-Unis
Le Volvo VNR est assemblé au New River Valley Plant, en Virginie, site emblématique où sont produits tous les camions Volvo destinés au marché nord-américain. Plus grande usine du groupe à l’échelle mondiale, cette installation est le cœur battant des opérations américaines du constructeur.
Récemment, près de 400 millions de dollars ont été investis pour moderniser et agrandir le site, avec notamment l’ajout d’un nouvel atelier de soudage des cabines de 350 000 pieds carrés, ainsi que l’amélioration des systèmes de peinture et de flux logistique. Depuis plus de quarante ans, Volvo construit en Virginie des camions pour les marchés américain et canadien — un engagement durable en faveur de l’industrie locale et d’une main-d’œuvre hautement qualifiée.
Plus efficient, plus sûr
Le nouveau VNR ne se contente pas d’être moderne : il est aussi plus performant. Grâce à une aérodynamique optimisée, à un groupe motopropulseur avancé et à des systèmes d’arrêt automatique au ralenti, il offre jusqu’à 7,5 % d’amélioration de la consommation de carburant par rapport à son prédécesseur.
La sécurité occupe également une place centrale. Le camion intègre un ensemble complet de technologies embarquées conçues pour évoluer dans des environnements urbains denses et fréquentés par les piétons. Son capot incliné et son large pare-brise panoramique améliorent considérablement la visibilité vers l’avant. Il introduit même des innovations inédites dans l’industrie, telles que des airbags rideaux latéraux intégrés — faisant du VNR le camion régional le plus sûr jamais produit par Volvo Trucks North America.
Une nouvelle génération de camions Volvo
Le lancement de la production du Volvo VNR s’inscrit dans la continuité de l’arrivée du tout nouveau Volvo VNL destiné au transport longue distance. In Dublin, Virginia, the first silhouettes of the all-new Volvo VNR are taking shape, rolling off the assembly line with the promise of performance tailored for the urban and regional roads of the United States.
Revealed to the world in March 2025, and then open for orders six months later, the Volvo VNR is now embarking on its true adventure: the road. The very first units have now left the production line, carrying with them the ambition of a new generation of regional trucks.
Completely redesigned—90% new compared to the previous model—the Volvo VNR is built on a brand-new platform. It was designed to tackle the complexities of congested city centers, logistics hubs, and urban routes where every meter counts. In these demanding environments, visibility, precision, and agility are not options, but absolute necessities.
As Peter Voorhoeve, President of Volvo Trucks North America, pointed out, driving a heavy-duty truck in dense urban environments is often challenging. The new VNR was designed to meet the realities of everyday driving, improving both driver safety and the safety of other road users. Today, the company is proud to see these trucks finally joining its customers' fleets.
Made in the USA
The Volvo VNR is assembled at the New River Valley Plant in Virginia, the iconic site where all Volvo trucks for the North American market are produced. The group's largest plant worldwide, this facility is the heart of the manufacturer's American operations.
Recently, nearly $400 million was invested to modernize and expand the site, including the addition of a new 350,000-square-foot cab welding shop, as well as improvements to the paint and logistics systems. For over 40 years, Volvo has been building trucks in Virginia for the U.S. and Canadian markets—a long-standing commitment to local industry and a highly skilled workforce.
More efficient, safer
The new VNR isn’t just modern; it’s also more efficient. Thanks to optimized aerodynamics, an advanced powertrain, and automatic idle stop systems, it offers up to 7.5 percent improved fuel economy compared to its predecessor.
Safety is also a top priority. The truck incorporates a comprehensive suite of onboard technologies designed for navigating dense urban environments with high pedestrian traffic. Its sloping hood and wide panoramic windshield significantly improve forward visibility. It even introduces industry-first innovations, such as integrated side curtain airbags—making the VNR the safest regional truck ever produced by Volvo Trucks North America.
A New Generation of Volvo Trucks
The launch of Volvo VNR production follows the arrival of the all-new Volvo VNL, designed for long-haul transport.
