Wood remporte un contrat clé pour l'exécution du projet AMSA Nueva Centinela

Wood, un leader mondial du conseil et de l'ingénierie, a remporté un contrat majeur auprès d'Antofagasta Minerals SA (AMSA) pour son projet de cuivre Nueva Centinela. Situé dans la région d'Antofagasta au Chili, le contrat permettra à Wood d'aider AMSA à agrandir la fosse Esperanza Sur.

Wood a été nommé partenaire stratégique pour l'exécution du projet et travaillera avec AMSA pour réaliser tous les aspects clés du projet. Cela comprendra la gestion de la construction d'une nouvelle usine de concentration, d'une installation de concassage de minerai, de systèmes de transport par convoyeur, d'un pipeline d'eau de mer, de l'élimination des résidus et de l'agrandissement des installations ainsi que d'autres infrastructures nécessaires au port de Centinela.

Le projet fait partie de l’investissement de 4,4 milliards de dollars de l’AMSA dans l’installation Minera Centinela et soutiendra la demande mondiale croissante de cuivre – en grande partie motivée par la transition énergétique et la tendance mondiale vers l’électrification.

Le projet positionnera Centinela pour devenir l’une des 15 premières mines de cuivre au monde en termes de production, produisant 170 000 tonnes d’équivalent cuivre supplémentaires par an – suffisamment de cuivre pour construire plus de deux millions de voitures électriques. La première production est attendue en 2027 et les travaux débuteront en mai 2024.

Jim Shaughnessy, président des minéraux, des métaux et des sciences de la vie de Wood, a déclaré : « Le cuivre a un rôle central à jouer dans notre transition énergétique. Ce projet de près de trois ans sera soutenu par environ 130 employés de Wood, l'entreprise prévoyant de recruter environ 50 nouveaux postes immédiatement suite à cette récompense. La majorité d’entre eux seront sur place, le reste au bureau de Wood’s à Santiago.

Wood, a global leader in consulting and engineering, has been awarded a major contract by Antofagasta Minerals SA (AMSA) for its Nueva Centinela copper project. Located in the Antofagasta region of Chile, the contract will see Wood support AMSA in expanding the Esperanza Sur pit.

Wood has been appointed as the strategic partner for project execution and will work together with AMSA to deliver all key aspects of the project. This will include managing the construction of a new concentrating plant, ore crushing facility, conveyor transportation systems, sea water pipeline, tailing disposal and facility expansions as well as other necessary infrastructure at the Centinela port.

The project forms part of AMSA’s US$4.4 billion investment into the Minera Centinela facility and will support the world’s increased demand for copper – largely driven by the energy transition and the global move towards electrification.

The project will position Centinela to become one of the top 15 copper mines in the world by output, producing an additional 170,000 copper equivalent tonnes per annum – enough copper to build over two million electric cars. First production is expected in 2027 with work commencing in May 2024.

The near three year project will be supported by around 130 Wood employees with the company planning to hire around 50 new positions immediately as a result of the award. The majority of these will be on-site, with the remainder at Wood’s Santiago office.

Wood, een wereldleider op het gebied van advies en engineering, heeft een groot contract gekregen van Antofagasta Minerals SA (AMSA) voor zijn koperproject Nueva Centinela. Het contract, gelegen in de regio Antofagasta in Chili, houdt in dat Wood AMSA ondersteunt bij de uitbreiding van de Esperanza Sur-put.

Wood is aangesteld als strategische partner voor de projectuitvoering en zal samenwerken met AMSA om alle belangrijke aspecten van het project te realiseren. Dit omvat het beheer van de bouw van een nieuwe concentratiefabriek, een ertsbreekfaciliteit, transportsystemen voor transport, een zeewaterpijpleiding, de verwijdering van residuen en uitbreidingen van de faciliteiten, evenals andere noodzakelijke infrastructuur in de haven van Centinela.

Het project maakt deel uit van AMSA’s investering van 4,4 miljard dollar in de Minera Centinela-faciliteit en zal de toegenomen vraag naar koper in de wereld ondersteunen – grotendeels gedreven door de energietransitie en de wereldwijde beweging naar elektrificatie.

Het project zal Centinela positioneren om qua productie een van de vijftien grootste kopermijnen ter wereld te worden, met een extra productie van 170.000 ton koperequivalent per jaar – genoeg koper om meer dan twee miljoen elektrische auto's te bouwen. De eerste productie wordt verwacht in 2027 en de werkzaamheden beginnen in mei 2024.

Het bijna drie jaar durende project zal worden ondersteund door ongeveer 130 Wood-werknemers, waarbij het bedrijf van plan is om als resultaat van de prijs onmiddellijk ongeveer 50 nieuwe functies aan te nemen. Het merendeel hiervan zal ter plaatse zijn, de rest op het kantoor van Wood in Santiago.
